Day 1: Cusco - Tinke - Upis
Ausangate Trek 5 days starts at 9.00am. You will be picked up and transported from Cusco to Tinke, 5 hours away at 3,900m, a small town where we camp the first night. En-route are many small villages where the stresses and strains of traditional rural life are visible.
Day 2: Upis - Ausangate Mountain Pass - Jatun Pucaqocha
We start our day with breakfast in Upis, before begining our ascent up the first part of the mountain, the Arapa Pass at 4,850m. After reaching this pass we eat lunch and begin the climb to the second pass, called Ausangate Pass (4,850m). We set up camp on the mountainside and from here we will enjoy the amazing views of the mountain range and lakes surrounded by impressive rock formations. As we descend we see the beautiful lakes of green and turquoise. We set up camp close to the lake Jatun Pucaqocha (Big Red Lake in Quechua).
Day 3: Jatun Pucaqocha - Palomani Pass - Huchuy Finaya
After breakfast we continue our trip through two passes, the second of which is Apuchata at 4900m. Immediately after that is the third pass, the Palomani at 5200m. Finally we arrive at Huchuy Finaya where we will camp for the night. From this point views of the Andeas are spectacular and include one side of the Ausangate mountain. We will also see many Alpaca herds on the way.
Day 4: Huchuy Finaya - Q'ampa - Pacchanta
Today we climb up to a another pass – Q'ampa, located at 5,100m. From this point we begin descending, passing many beautiful lakes en-route, towards the Pacchanta community, where we spend the last night. We can enjoy the evening in the thermal baths and have a large "last supper" of typical Andean food to celebrate getting this far!
Day 5: Pacchanta - Tinke - Cusco
After breakfast, we continue walking for three hours to Tinke. From Tinki we take our private bus back to Cusco, arriving in the afternoon.
